The Black Watch Museum in Perth is situated on a prominent site overlooking the famous North Inch Parklands. The Museum has undergone transformative changes over the last few years and now boasts a 5 star visitor attraction and new build café, which was built in 2014. The brief was to design a contemporary, multi purpose space which would allow for larger events such as weddings, lectures, dinners and additional tables for the café on an every day basis where required.
The local Planning Department and Historic Scotland were keen to ensure that the new structure did not dominate or distract from the historic setting of Balhousie Castle itself but that any new addition would contribute to a more contemporary feel.. The proposed modern yet understated design created a light, open and functional space that sits comfortably alongside the historic building and does not compete with it. Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent were obtained and building works are to commence on site with this exciting new project in Autumn/Winter 2017.
